Fine artists create serigraphs in limited runs by applying layer upon layer of pigment to the print surface by pressing it through a mesh screen containing a stencil. In "Blue Dancers" we see a number of girls waiting in the wings to perform. Degas often painting ballerinas in resting or preparation form. He often showed not only ballerinas but women in general in normal lackluster positions performing ordinary tasks in their lives.
